FYI, we (@riban & @jofemodo) are focused in the new development branch “zynbleton” and most new features and improvements are being implemented there. Zynbleton is a full rethinking of the zynstep workflow. Zynpad has vanished and we have something, well … it recalls a little bit the Ableton Live Session view. Mixer columns match “launcher” columns, like this:
Launcher pads can be MIDI patterns or audio clips. Can you believe that @riban is using Linux Sampler engine as a clip launcher? Crazy!! But it works quite well. You will be surprised!
CC automation is being improved. We have implemented linear interpolation (1 point per clock). Of course you can disable interpolation and have discrete CC events. Also, “zynstep MIDI CC” has been added to the controller MIDI-learn options, so you can assign a CC number by hand or use normal MIDI learn. And MIDI CC capture works like a charm
Bravo!!! Great work you guys are doing!
If I were to try it out and hook up a piece a gear like the Akai APC-64 what would happen??
Kidding!!
but am I??
Well done, exciting news!
I couldn’t hold myself back on a vangelis system (V5.1). Changed the zynthian-ui branch to zynbleton/updated/rebooted… and … Couldn’t see the boxes.
How to get access to the patterns. Single push on PAD → nothing happens, long push on PAD, pattern edit screen appears.
How is the workflow to get these funny little boxes to be used?
Will there be 8 patterns in total (only)?
BTW: Shouldn’t we? “…Please, don’t complain about errors or bugs…” (jofemodo)
or should we ? “… and feed back on your experience …” (riban)
Certainly comment on this topic about your experience but don’t raise issues in the tracker or complain about things. This is a special invite to experience the fun and heartache of bleeding edge development.
The view can be toggled between mixer and launcher by bold press encoder 2 or bold touch the titlebar… however, I just updated my V5 and the grid of launchers is not showing so there may be something awry.
[EDIT] The issue I had is specific to one snapshot. Clearing and rebuilding the snapshot works fine with access to the launcher view. (I will figure out what the issue is with the snapshot, as we don’t want such bugs!!!)
[EDIT] The issue with snapshot relates to lack of backward compatibility with old snapshots which we must fix before we deploy this development. Sequences in existing snapshots will not be shown (correctly). We need to figure out how best to migrate those…
No! By default there are 8 scenes but you can bold enter/press a main chain launcher to add, remove and move scenes. The view will scroll vertically to show any hidden scenes as you cursor down/up, similar to how it scrolls horizontally to show hidden chains. You can also use the admin meny to set the quantity of scenes shown. Launchers are sized to fit the display, i.e. if you select fewer scenes then the launchers will be taller, similar to if you select fewer chains to display, each chain is wider.
How can I define/add another launcher?
Just making a pattern did not work.
Copy/paste a pattern did not work.
Recording midi did not work.
It is not that intuitive to me, because I never used Ableton.
The arranger screen was of no help either as this seems to be unfinished, showing only a full screen of overlapping numbers.
Thank you. What do I do if there are no launcher pads shown after loading a snapshot? There is just a grey area, no launcher at all. Some of the factory snapshots create one or two rows of launchers, but I can not add more. If I remove all and build chains and fill the launchers with thiings, save a snapshot and reload it, everything disappears, grey screen area.
If I remove all and build new chains, there is the launcher screen full of grey launchers, each of them can be filled with pattern and data, then it turns blue (or other colour) for a while, but after calling up a menu, everything is gone and all launchers are grey again.
I understand this WIP, so this feedback is not a bug report.
Can’t wait to use the finished Zynbleton with all its possibilities. I love this concept!
Thank you.
I opened a separate Zynbleton User experience thread so we can discuss more “user related” experiences, without bogging down this main thread, I didn’t want to Hijack it.
