Zynth club. .. There's just one rule in Zynth club

What a wonderful evening / afternoon / morning that was. We heard (a lot) from our very own Spanish correspondent on CNC adventures as well as…

  • Miles and pints may be the most (only?) important imperial measurements
  • CNC is tricky - maybe laser cutting is simpler
  • You can build things with CNC from Blender
  • How long is a piece of wire and how long does it take to turn on a light bulb? Apparently, energy doesn’t flow in wires
  • Keeping digital speakers awake - JV/C* Sin - Sine wave generator - only goes up to 20kHz but seems to do the job
  • How many people’s jobs are their hobbies?
  • Gliders just need a bit of string to fly them
  • Zynthian on a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 seems okay without VNC - with VNC it ginds to a halt
  • We should embrace PEP8 - Black seems to help
  • Be more Pythonic - what does that even mean?
  • If you have to learn how to program Python properly then you may as well learn to program a proper programming language
  • Analogue is cool according to some people - are they deluded?
  • Work on a new Zynthian audio player is in progress but it is not a DAW - you can use a DAW on Zynthian with VNC if you want
  • The new (still in development) Zynthian mixer is intuitive according to some disinterested users
  • A Binatone game controller is being integrated in a modular rack:
    image
  • Light pens were cool - if rather lame
  • Ornament and crime is some cool analogue thingy
  • You can get panels made for your Euro-rack modules at what some feel is quite acceptable price

Clandestine colluding can cause collective cancellation creating cracked coverage - there are no notes from last week’s meeting.

You see, just a bit of string…

I heard some rumors in fact that rust was to be the chosen one for the API, It might just been the ravens outside my dungeon tho :yum:

I think the rook soup has addled your mind. Either that or I have been excluded from those discussions! Still working on the high-level design of API. Implementation technology yet to be chosen.

And talking of Zynth Club, what about a meeting next week? Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday would suit me.

Monday or Wednesday for me

Not many takers yet… Let’s make it Wednesday 8th December 2021 at 19:00 UTC.

Last night, in the zynthclub, for reasons that are better left unexplained, I asked if there were any songs about Dunstable.

This morning, I found myself tidying a few things up and I came across a record I bought at a gig a few weeks before the pandemic kicked in.

And what do you know, one of the tunes on the record is called “Dunstable downs”

Now I realize that this isn’t necessarily the kind of edgy progressive synthesized EDM / bell ringing that normally appeals to the zynthclub crew, but the serendipity and the low number of YouTube views made me decide to share it with you anyway… I hope you enjoy “Dunstable downs”

Being stuck here without a hire vehicle, I have the “Dunstable Downs”!

More importantly why and where are you standing in front of an organ type device that we need to see all the details of, or is this just evidence of Subtle Bedfordshire cross marketing…?

@riban a transport vulture has been sent . . . .

I wouldn’t trust it thou’

Nothing to do with Bedfordshire, I’m afraid…

It is a giant print of a photo I took, that hangs on my home office wall. The organ is in Tooting Granada Cinema, which is now a Bingo hall. (Better than a 'spoons)

Wurlitzer (Opus 1523)
Original 1931 installation
4 Manuals
14 Ranks

It’s a hell of a device!

More details here :-

If ever Zynthian needed a screen saver. I would submit this as one of the pictures

Festive felicitations from a fun-filled fantasia - at least that is how I remember it.

  • ZynthBox was discussed - some had tried it, others wanted some more visual temptation, e.g. pictures or videos to show what it is
  • More door bell news and other security tips like raining down rook soup from the ramparts onto suspected thieves
  • We have a picture of an umbrella thief - could this be the same person who made off with a micro SD card?
  • How do they fit more inside the same size SD cards and why didn’t they do it before?
  • What is a fader and what is volume?
  • We heard of a DIY Sampler based on ESP32
  • We heard of an ESP32 outputting video
  • If you have a M1 Apple device and some case burning a hole in your pocket you may like to look at a looper
  • If you need a framebuffer graphics toolkit then write your own.
  • Java vulnerability is spoiling some people’s Christmas
  • How interested will AI be in humans? (As interested as humans are with ants?)
  • South Park talks to Alexa - a memorable out-of-box experience
  • John Cleese guide to Alexa - I am going to give you a good thrashing!
  • If IT support refer to you as a, “power user” then you know they have had enough
  • How many parallel paths are required in a chain? We struggled to think of use case for more than 2
  • Physical acoustics design is an artform
  • How many floppy disks for an OS?
  • At least we don’t need to recompile the kernel each week
  • Black MIDI is a thing (sounds noisy to this old man)
  • Micro tuning is not playing out of tune
  • Which side of the Wallace Line are you?

Merry Christmas :santa:. I hope you all get some time to play with your Zynthians :face_with_monocle:.

[Edit] Ah yes! We also discussed using Oracle’s free tier to run your own Minecraft server.
