It has come to the attention of the committee that actual face to face contact may have taken place in or around Essex at or about last Friday.

There are reports of an actual meeting ( a so called moot) between active members of this club. . .

Zynthian was discussed and the release of the release candidate can be released to members as a possible topic of conversation.

Our local agent ( the cat ) sussed out the the interloper as one, wyleu, who demonstrated Raspberry Pi 4’s in cute cases, The various portable zynthians that get chucked in a bag, the i2c connector box and the pedalboard… Luckily the 12 string was left in it case :-). A table got assembled, the duopiano.ca was discussed with enthusiasm, and conspiracies were hatched on how one breaks the rather strict one in , two out keyboard rule …

More news as we get it !

Well none of that addresses when the next Zynth club meeting will be… Probably Monday 7pm Local True Solar Time?

I seems that there is a request submitted to the community to convene the high order of the zynth today. Let’s be having you at the same time (19:00 UTC) at the same place (IM me for webconf details). Bring your own topics for discussion, drinks and nibbles.

This is a socially distanced casual social event. It is what it is and it is what you make it. If you don’t enjoy it then you only have yourselves to blame!

Please note that @wyleu arrived early to the Essex meet (as is his norm - time is ethereal to him) but remained connected and engaged throughout… which is less usual!!! I was left with more projects to progress than when he arrived. Mrs riban is not happy about that and almost threw the young interloper from the turret of riban towers when he exposed yet another keyboard - even if it was only small. Cherry tomatoes were shared and plots for revolution quashed - well, deferred.

Rather like a stig without the driving skills… 19:00 today eh? OK. I’ll fire up the old laptop.

Probably won’t work for me today - have fun, guys!

Not XTC

Not xtc at all…

As we head towards a new season the usual suspects gathered to discuss recent events.

  • One of us played with fishertechnik
  • One of us played with a twelve string
  • One of us played the fool (actually - most of us)
  • Skipping YouTube adds was mentioned
  • @wyleu pointed us at the piano of two halfs (44 + 44 keys)
  • @Baggypants was quiet, then loud then just right without any background interference
  • @ronsum showed progress with his Axoloti (yay! I remembered its name :smile) with its newly spawned display. He tells us it sounds great but did not prove this assertion!
  • There was much discussion on audio level control and zynmixer. The use case for a 16 channel mixer is limited to a few but there was consensus that rapid, simple control of levels of all layers was most desirable with most thinking that would typically be about 4 layers
  • The Korg nanoKONTROL (or similar) was thought to be a three bears match to requirements (too much, too little, just right) and some wondered if there were other hardware controllers that could be used for volume control of fewer / more channels.
  • @riban showed an Android app developed to control the mixer within Ardour that could be adapted for Zynthian. @ronsum downloaded an off-the-shelf OSC controller for Android and is now tasked with configuring it to control zynmixer (which is fully OSC controllable: port 1370, values 0…1, path /mixer/fader0, /mixer/mute0, etc.)
  • How cheap can you get an Android tablet to use as a remote OSC controller - £22.88 apparently!
  • What options are there to turn the Zynthian into a cartwall (one button per sound which when you press will play that sample either one-shot, looping (retriggering from start) or looping (starting immediately, overdubbing any currently playing instance)? Linux Sampler and Fluidsynth were considered or a PD patch might be required. ZynPad might help. Fabla does something like this.
  • Adding tremolo and GxBoobTube (already available in Zynthian) to a flat electric piano can bring it to life
  • How do we share single instrument configurations, e.g. if one of us configures a synth engine with added effects, can they export just that one layer and can someone else import it into an existing snapshot, i.e. add that instrument (with its effects and parameter customisation) to an existing set of instruments / layers? There were only questions - not answers.
  • It was a good year for growing tomatoes
  • The quantity of mute buttons kept growing, one for; real banjo, Rick Astley, etc.

On the fischertechnik front, here are some of my old dusty kits from my parents loft… Obviously parts missing but these are probably around 40 year old toys…

We should do one.

Let’s. Maybe there will be a teaser of something @ronsum and I have been playing with… When?

Monday I reckon

Monday for me.

Monday is my first day back at work after two weeks working on my house so I should be suitably relaxed .

ZynthClub at 19:00 UTC, Monday 21st September 2020. IM me if you need connection details. Everyone is welcome. It is just a social club with occasional discussions relevant to Zynthian.
