Zynthian 5.1 - SPI EEPROM error - Pi 4 and Pi 5 (solved)

Hi all.
New Zynthian user, assembled it yesterday. Very impressed, really professional look and nice instructions (although everytime I connected a flat cable I found myself thinking if it was properly fit or not).

Just had a problem with my RPi5 that seems to be rare so l’ll post it here in case someone eventually has the same problem:

after first boot I got the reversed screen booting sequence but after that just a black screen, for minutes, at least half an hour (some more)

Reflashed the microSD card and tried again and now nothing at all. The RPi green led flashed a few times, 3 medium pulsed and then 1 short pulse and after a short pause it repeated the sequence.

This means “SPI EEPROM error” and after some searching the solution is to use rpi-install to create a microSD card that fixes the bootloader.

But it didn’t work immediately, not sure why. I connected a microHDMI adapter to the RPi to see if there were boot messages but nothing so I started removing all flat cables, then the whole RPi (except the heatsink). And it finally booted, fixed the bootloader and showed a green screen.

After that I reassembled the whole kit again and it’s now working fine.

I had some issues in the past with microSD cards not working (mostly because of wrong formats but sometimes a damaged one) but never had this problem - I was already considering order a new Rpi5 (this one didn’t came with the kit, bought it in a local electronic/robotics shop I trust)

Dang… it seems my problem is not so rare (I searched this forum before I post, didn’t notice this thread - sorry)
