Hi all,

When will be V5 Zynthian kits available to buy again ? Thanks

Hi @Aujo!

That is wonderful news :star:

(and we hope that there will be also some sort of V5.5 upgrade kit for V5 users!)

I would like to buy the V5.5 kit when itā€™s available. How can I be notified?

Any news on availability?

Are you asking about V5 or V5.5 or ā€œconversion kitā€? I believe the answers are yes available, not yet, and not yet in corresponding order, although I donā€™t speak for Zynthian Labs.

V5 is sold out. V5.1 is coming, but not ready yet.

Regarding conversion kits, there are 2 options:

  • Minimal kit, super-cheap but needing some surgery. It would include new thermal block, new display cable and USB-C harness for bridging the cutted tracks and keeping the USB-B port operative. The rpi5 board would be optional.
I would like to write a tutorial on this, but my time is limited. If somebody having a V5 wants to collaborate with me on this, I could send the parts to him for free.

  • Wasteful kit, that would replace almost half of the v5 parts but no surgery would be needed. It would include new main board, aluminum case, thermal block, display cable and pi5. Only display, control board and silicone buttons would be kept. Iā€™ve serious doubts about this kit because itā€™s quite expensive and most users would prefer to buy a full kit for the little difference.
Of course, I could offer a good price to V5 owners, but itā€™s still so wasteful! :pensive:

Hi @jofemodo!

I think I could consider, depending on context, complexity of tinkering and price, both minimal and radical V5 upgrade kits.

I wonder if either the basic or the full-fledged upgrade solution would/will include an M.2 nvme hat: that aspect would be significant for me to effect a choice.

All the best

Just for clarity: May I just assume that V5.5 (as called higher above) is now being called V5.1?

Yes. The next V5 kit is v5.1.

For sure not. We have no plans to include a NVMe hat in the next v5.1 kit release. We need to gain experience with it before. Anyway, adding a NVMe to the V5 is quite easy, as i already explained here:

You can order this hat for 12ā‚¬ and it perfectly fits the V5 case design.

All the best,

Hi @jofemodo

It is good that you remind me of your previous post, about this interesting nvme HAT that fits perfectly inside the V5 case.

I guess/hope that it will find place also in the V5.x upgrade kitā€™s new enclosure (can you maybe confirm that?), since - going from your words - there arenā€™t immediate plans for early nvme adoption in the coming Pi5 Zynthian revision.

Hi.

Will the V5 kit ever be available again or just the new 5.1 when itā€™s launched?

We have some spare units of V5 that will be sell as soon as we receive the control boards.

Thanks

I would absolutely love to be your tutorial monkey on this. I have previously done a video presentation on building a homebrew zynthian for the local Hax festival, a few years back, but I didnā€™t record the presentation at the time because the organizer told me he would provide an archive link for it. He did not.

The presentation was well-received, I was told - I used multiple cameras in OBS, no simple amateur here and my video will be useful.

Iā€™m also employed again so paying for it is also fine with me, but I would definitely like to get in on it early. :>
