Success Cases

I have a V4.6kit and am really enjoying it. The experience is much different than I expected, but full of riches I never expected. I use a bunch of different gear, so my Zynth learning curve is slow but progressing. TYG for snapshots! I’m nuts about Aeolus, and right now I’m going to see if I can get my four buttons to open each “manual” directly, letting me change pipes a bit easier. But the sound exceeds all expectations, and is perfect for my current partimento education. Exploring the various pipes really fun. Thanks to everyone here!

Any chance of an offering…?

Yeah @Nicolaz something king kong’esque

Happy playing with :zynlogo:

Thank you for such a cool piece of software! It makes sound, it is open source, and it is based on a Raspberry - I had to make one, though I’m a guitar player  This is my build, completely custom, got bigger than I thought. Internal power supply, cheap 7" display, IQ audio soundcard, custom mcp23017 IO board. Took me some time to figure out the right configuration… Everything running on Raspi 3, which sometimes does not have enough CPU power, but v4 ist too expensive right now, and I had v3 lying around. Acrylic top looks nice, but gets dirty even if you only look at it… Cheers everyone!

There is no material more beautiful than wood… Mother Nature is incomparable… :heartbeat: :heartbeat: :heartbeat: :heartbeat:

Transparencies are very … sexy…

PREEEEEESENTIN’

My new build, now fully functional. I made a very short video showing the switches working:

This is my first build, I went with just duplicating the stock controls for the moment, but they’re all on a Teensy which is sending master channel midi signals, so I can also use them to signal other things. The bonus four buttons are all stomp switches, they’re just what I had but I might look at giving up the touchscreen and adding a layer of protective glass so I can actually use it as a pedal.

I will be posting the code for the Teensy controller to github shortly but I need to clean it up, remove stray variables and such. I’ll also make a youtube documenting the details of the build. This unit is going to end up in front of my band’s piano player after I’ve shown it off to everyone I know - I plan to do a short presentation on building a headless unit at my local hackerspace’s upcoming fest on April 1, so if any resident experts want to watch and tell me how I screw it up, I can provide details and links once we’ve got that figured out.

I went with a Teensy rather than direct wiring in order to pre-solve the problem of how to attach the standard controls to an x86 port that I plan to experiment with. It will probably end up with a more limited scope than Zynthian’s universe-in-a-box approach, but stick to Zynthian aesthetic conventions and engines.

Now that the base unit is complete, I also plan to investigate the possibility of cramming a microdexed into the teensy as well, but it’s only a 3.2 so that might be too ambitious, and also unnecessary of course.

Which display did you use? Since the mixer I would like to upgrade to an bigger display!

Not who you asked, but mine uses one of these - quite nice, bright screen, well assembled, mounting holes are nicely situated.

I got the display second hand for a couple of euros; it is a noname 7" HDMI display labeled “clb7inh”, 1024x600px. It has touch functionality, but according to (very hard to find) documentation it is not plug&play; I do not use touch anyway, since the display is mounted behind acrylic.

I opted to go with an 5" Waveshare due to size. Now ordering a HifiBerry DAC+ADC and soldering an MCP23017 module and Midi module. Time to make a new enclosure

@jimkim that looks suspiciously like many other 7" which are plug and play in Linux. Try plugging the USB in and you may be rewarded with touch control.

Which we can celebrate here!!

I may give it a try. It’s mounted behind acrylic right now, so no way to touch the screen… But using the GUI/rotary encoders ist absolutely allright for me.

I’ve just seen this for the first time!

It’s magnificent!

And another Zynthian is born…

From design to 3D printed mockup to lasercut acrylic and wood…

I’m impressed: outright gorgeous, on a true factory-grade level of manufacturing. And this is said from someone who’s honesty not a fan of heavy-duty surface styles. Kudos!

With encoders on the right you will be able to benefit from the new layout that is being trialed in the testing branch and hopefully in a stable release soon.
